With the rise of urbanization, cities are becoming increasingly hotter and more sealed over, contributing to the loss of biodiversity, the degradation of air quality and the reduction of community well-being.
It was in response to this challenge that Reforest was born — a non-profit environmental association dedicated to regenerating nature in urban spaces and building greener, more resilient and healthier cities.
Who We Are
Our main area of action is the reforestation of degraded or unused urban green spaces, through the planting of native forests using the Miyawaki method, promoting more biodiverse and resilient ecosystems.
In parallel, we develop the URUA – One Street, One Tree project, which aims to increase the tree cover of the city of Lisbon, promoting the planting of trees on every street where this is technically and ecologically viable.
Our Mission
To regenerate urban ecosystems through the reforestation and arborization of cities, promoting biodiversity, climate change adaptation and the well-being of communities.
Our Vision
We believe that the cities of the future must integrate nature as part of their infrastructure. That is why we work to build a greener, more resilient and healthier Lisbon, where people and nature coexist in balance.
Our Goals
We turn our mission into concrete actions through two main areas of work.
Miyawaki Forests
Plant up to 1,000 m² of native forest per year in schools, companies, large retail areas and other urban spaces.
URUA – One Street, One Tree
Promote the planting of trees on every street in Lisbon where this is technically and ecologically viable.
Encourage innovative urban arborization solutions, using existing tree pits or, when needed, large planters.
Contribute to greener, more comfortable streets adapted to climate change.
